Very often the career of an accountant is associated with a tedious process of book-keeping which was exactly the main activity of any accountant just not long ago. Nowadays the essence of the profession has changed greatly due to the fast-paced and rapid development of the technologies. However, even if computers perform almost all book-keeping work, the role of an accountant still remains of paramount importance. It is an accountant manager who analyzes and presents the resulting information which appears to be crucial in a decision-making process of any company. Therefore, it would be reckless to underestimate this profession and the process of mastering it.

The account’s chief responsibilities vary from tracking companies’ expenses, analyzing and verifying financial documents to keeping public records and paying taxes properly and depend on the type (a public account, a management account, a government account, an internal auditor).

There are certain skills an accountant can’t but have. They include:

  • accounting (working knowledge of financial transactions and financial statements preparation);
  • knowledge of corporate finance and accounting systems;
  • reporting skills (ability to prepare statistical and written reports for management;
  • SFAS ( Financial Accounting and Standards Board) Rules;
  • attention to details;
  • ability to meet deadlines, etc.

You can train for a career of an accountant in a business or government agency. A bachelor’s degree is the minimum requirement to become an accountant. If you want to become a CPA (certificated public accountant), you will need to meet an experience and educational requirements and pass a certification exam. The exam shows the level of your knowledge of the law and basic mathematical concepts.

Try your luck at mastering your accounting skills!
